About Jasmine
“To pay attention, this our endless and proper work.”
-Mary Oliver
Jasmine Chantilly, who was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, knew she wanted to pursue the arts from a young age. Drawing captured her heart early on, but her passion for painting emerged while she was pursuing a masters degree in art therapy. The process of painting was invigorating. Jasmine found that it promoted mental clarity and living in the moment. When she was painting, she wasn’t thinking. Throughout her studies, painting provided respite from the endless personal reflection and the intense focus required to observe the behavioral patterns of others. Jasmine's love of painting and her background in art therapy both play a vital role in her unique artist voice and the focus of her work today.
Jasmine's artwork is about awareness, curiosity, and taking a closer look. It’s about cultivating peace and finding glimmers of joy through all of life’s stages. Similar to the photorealist artists and urban sketchers that have heavily influenced her, Jasmine is often inspired by mundane, everyday objects. These items are often overlooked or unappreciated, but Jasmine delights in observing them closely and immortalizing them on her canvas. They represent a moment in time, captured forever. Jasmine says, "Everything has a story to tell if you just listen. My work is about listening and uncovering those stories." Jasmine believes that the key to understanding herself and others is to learn from the stories.
Jasmine's studio in Ohio is open year round. She is currently working on a series of close-up still life paintings that are partially inspired by motherhood. She is also teaching her young daughter how to embrace her own love of painting. In the future, Jasmine plans to put together an art book comprised of a collection of paintings that represent her life and its different seasons.
